Rally To Support United Steelworkers
So, so, so, SOLIDARITY!
The United Steelworkers are holding an International Solidarity rally in support of three striking Steel locals who are currently in a fight against corporate giant Vale Inco Ltd. The purpose of the rally is to Build Solidarity, and will be made up of union leaders from around the world.
Steel locals in Sudbury, Voisey's Bay, and Port Colborne are all currently out on strike. Many OPSEU members are directly impacted by this situation, as many of us have family and friends in the mining industry. So, let's show our support for these workers by making sure that OPSEU isSEEN and HEARD at this rally!
The rally runs from 11:00am until 3:00pm on September 19th, 2009. So, if you are in or around Sudbury, please try to stop by! The Sudburyarena is located at 240 Elgin Street, Sudbury.
Make sure to let your family, friends, and locals know about the event as well!

Region 6 Womens Committee:
On August 20th 2009, OPSEU’s Provincial Women’s Committee held a car maintenance survival workshop where 12 sisters and one brother learned all about the importance of car maintenance.
The guest speaker and local mechanic, Kristy Pugilese, was able to show us how easy it is to check fluids, change tires, check for tire balding and pressure, etc. She said that properly maintaining a car is not geared towards gender, it is geared towards knowledge.
Women were able to ask advice and I was told by many who attended that they left feeling more confident on their car-maintaining capabilities.
The night went quickly and was a great success!
